FROM LAKE CONSTANCE TO THE WHOLE WORLD

We have been manufacturing high-quality luminaires at our plant in Tettnang on Lake Constance since 1982. Our luminaires and components are proudly “Made in Germany”.

Our wide range of products includes omnidirectional and covered moisture-proof and surface-mounted luminaires for diverse applications – we also develop and produce customised special-purpose luminaires based on customer requirements.

Defective products? Not here! All our products undergo thorough quality controls in our in-house laboratory. And because we leave nothing to chance, all our products come with a 5-year warranty on the LED components and a 50,000-hour lifetime – guaranteed!

THE HISTORY OF OUR FAMILY BUSINESS

1926
Founding
During the 1930s, efforts were underway to develop a synthetic material to complement metal and wood: plastic. The industrialisation of plastic manufacturing was rapidly gaining momentum. Engineer Joseph Reiss (1894–1954) recognised the new material’s potential and, in 1926, founded the company Reiss and Sachs in Tettnang together with Hans Sachs. Before long, their successful company was supplying plastic components to the rapidly growing aviation firms Zeppelin and Dornier.
1950
Start of luminaire production
After the Second World War, fluorescent tubes entered the market, creating a demand for compatible luminaires. This marked the beginning of luminaire development in Tettnang. Joseph Reiss began manufacturing plastic, which he used to develop plastic luminaires (moisture-proof luminaires). The new business segment quickly gained strategic significance. In 1958, his son-in-law Horst Layer-Reiss joined the company and systematically expanded the luminaire division.

Initially, the luminaire covers were made from cellulose, before the company transitioned to Plexiglas. In the late 1970s, shock-resistant polycarbonate was introduced.
1968
Development of a new business location
The rapid market growth and strong demand for high-quality luminaires and luminaire components continued unabated. From 1968, additional production capacity was gradually established at a second site in Tettnang.
1982
Expansion into new markets
In 1982, Karl Michelberger and Horst Layer-Reiss founded the company Leuchten-Technik Tettnang GmbH & Co. KG.
TODAY
On course for the future
Since 1 July 2020, Dr Karl Walter Michelberger has served as General Manager of LTT Leuchten-Technik Tettnang GmbH & Co. KG.

Together, Dr Michelberger and his motivated team have laid the foundations for a successful future, even in today’s LED-driven world.
