Sustainable production at LTT

We care about the environment and natural resources – that’s why we manufacture our products in a sustainable manner.

Sustainability has become a core issue in modern society. It focuses on conserving resources and meeting present needs without placing excessive strain on the systems involved. Ensuring these cycles remain regenerative is crucial for the long-term, environmentally responsible use of resources.

Sustainability plays a key role in many areas, whether in the production of goods, energy policy or personal lifestyle choices.

At LTT, we are committed to environmentally sound practices as part of our contribution to a sustainable future.

  • Ecological sustainability
  • Economic requirements
  • Social aspects

Quality

With our DIN ISO 9001 and DIN ISO 14001 certifications, we uphold our high quality standards while ensuring environmental sustainability.

Quality management (DIN ISO 9001)

Efficient and reliable processes are essential for manufacturing high-quality products. By streamlining our production workflows, we can avoid unnecessary scrap and reduce our energy consumption and material wastage. This not only supports sustainable resource utilisation but also results in efficient production processes that meet customer expectations.

Environmental management (DIN ISO 14001)

Our workflows are characterised by efficiency and environmental awareness. We prioritise resource conservation and the implementation of ecologically sound processes. Through the corresponding measures, we help to minimise environmental pollution and promote the sustainable use of resources. We strive to design our processes and workflows in harmony with nature, recognising our responsibility to future generations.

Energy

Processing plastics is energy-intensive – they must be melted, shaped and then cooled. However, compared to the production of steel or aluminium parts, plastic processing is significantly more energy-efficient. That said, generating energy from fossil sources results in CO₂ emissions.

To keep our CO₂ emissions as low as possible, we focus on the following:

  • Selecting energy-efficient injection moulding and thermoforming machines whenever new equipment is procured.
  • Using waste heat from production to heat our facilities.
  • Implementing energy management systems to further reduce our energy consumption.

Supply chain

We place a major emphasis on the quality and origin of our raw materials. For this reason, we source our pure-grade raw materials exclusively from reputable manufacturers, preferably within our region, who adhere to recognised quality and environmental standards. We do not use raw materials of questionable origin. This approach enables us to maintain short transport routes and minimise unnecessary CO₂ emissions.

Sustainability and environmental protection are also central to our production processes. Plastic waste, such as sprues or edge trimming, is collected and sorted by type, re-ground and returned to the production cycle. This allows us to achieve an internal reuse rate for plastics of over 95%. Additionally, all our products are clearly labelled to ensure they can be sorted correctly for material or energy recovery.

We also offer our customers the option of bio-based plastics, provided this is both technically feasible and environmentally beneficial. This means we can manufacture bio-based moisture-proof luminaires, further contributing to environmental conservation. Sustainability is at the core of everything we do, and we remain committed to using resources responsibly and in an environmentally sound manner.

Employees

We recognise that our employees are our most important resource in terms of driving sustainability within our company.

We are proud to have an exceptionally low rate of employee turnover, which ensures that our workforce is characterised by stability and security. With more than 40 years of experience in luminaire manufacturing and plastic processing, our team members possess extensive expertise – and we highly value their expert knowledge.

We are also aware that only motivated and well-trained employees can lead our company into a successful future. That’s why we prioritise fair, competitive salaries and continuous professional development for our staff. We firmly believe that our employees’ growth also drives the growth of our company.

At our production site in Tettnang, located near Lake Constance, we strictly adhere to Germany’s high employment standards. Issues such as human rights violations, poor working conditions or child labour are simply not a concern here. We actively foster an equitable and socially responsible work environment that enables our employees to reach their full potential. Ultimately, we believe that a sustainable future can only be built on effective collaboration and mutual respect.

Sustainability in daily life: why our actions matter

Environmental pollution due to uncontrolled disposal of plastic waste

The uncontrolled disposal of plastics is an important issue due to the resulting severe environmental contamination. Developing countries are acutely affected by this problem, as they often lack the systems and infrastructure to collect and recycle plastic waste. In fact, around 98% of the plastic waste that ends up polluting the environment originates from these countries.

  • Asia 82%
  • Rest of the world 16%
  • USA & Europe 2%

The negative reputation of plastic

Plastics often have a bad name due to their association with environmental pollution and waste problems. However, the material itself is not inherently problematic – it’s how we handle it that matters.

One way to reduce the negative environmental impact of plastics is to avoid using plastic packaging. If each of us were to stop using plastic packaging in any form, the resulting CO2 savings would be significant, making an important contribution to climate protection.
