Summary information relating to the plastics we use


Polyester (GRP)

Fibreglass re-enforced polyester (thermoset) - excellent chemical resistance, high resistance to weathering and UV, high impact resistance, ideal material for rigid and dimensionally stable parts.

Polymethylmethacrylat (PMMA)

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is a synthetic, glass-like thermoplastic. It is colloquially known as acrylic glass or plexiglass.

Excellent light transmittance (better than mineral glass) is easy to colour, is weather and ages resistant, is resistant to acids, alkalis of medium concentration, petrol and oil. However, ethanol, acetone and benzene attack PMMA. Therefore plexiglass surfaces should not be cleaned with alcohol or solvents, otherwise stress corrosion cracking occurs.

Polycarbonate (PC)

Polycarbonates are plastics from the synthetic polymers and the polyester family group. More precisely, they are polymeric esters of carbonic acid with diols (dihydric alcohol).

They are characterised by high strength, have excellent impact strength, stiffness and hardness. Polycarbonates are generally resistant to the effects of weather and radiation.

Polycarbonates are resistant to water, many mineral acids and liquid solutions containing neutral salts and oxidants. Polycarbonates are unstable against some chlorinated hydrocarbons and alkaline liquid solutions. Amines and ammonia attack polycarbonates.

Polyurethan (PUR)

The soft elastic foam seal with a cross-linked structure is stable against external influences such as moisture, dust and temperature, and has an excellent durability during continuous use.

Ethylen-Propylen-Dien-Kautschuk (EPDM)

EPDM is a terpolymer elastomer (rubber); a synthetic rubber and has characteristics such as high weather and moisture resistance, ozone resistance as well as high thermal resistance.

It is used because of its high elasticity and good chemical resistance, among other things, for varoius seals such as O-rings for mechanical sealing or gaskets.
